2022 Moab Easter Jeep Safari concepts revealed

The American brand has debuted a series of bonkers off-road focused machines, including an electric powered 4WD beast.

Jeep has revealed its line-up of bonkers off-road concepts ahead of the annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari.

The yearly event is used by Jeep to show-off its range of aftermarket Mopar accessories and the potential of its vehicles.

Headlining the smorgasbord of wicked off-road concepts is the all-electric Magneto 2.0 4WD.

Based on the regular Wrangler, this concept is a follow up to last year’s Magneto that is designed to show electric-propulsion can live up to the brand’s off-road heritage.

Jeep and its head designer, Mark Allen, are excited by the potential that electric power brings to off-road machines.

The electric motor aided by four battery packs makes a massive 466kW and 1152Nm.

Jeep is also experimenting with a manual-style transmission. This is unique for electric cars that usually use a single speed transmission.

The preset ratios are there to provide extra control for the driver in certain situations by allowing driver’s to control the amount of torque delivered.

Allen says one of the benefits of the manual transmission is the direct drive feel of a manual with the ease to drive of an auto.

“In very tough rock situations or rock crawl scenarios the vehicle can’t stall so there is no fear of that,” says Allen.

Jeep has boosted the off-road potential by extending the distance between the front and rear wheels by 12-inches and adding a custom 3-inch lift kit and 40-inch off-road tyres mounted on 20-inch wheels.

Selectable regenerative braking can allow single pedal driving with the driver lifting off the accelerator to brake.

Jeep has continued the electrification theme with the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk PHEV Concept.

This is based on the coming plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee 4xe that can be driven up to 40km on pure electric power before switching to the petrol engine.

Jeep has used the concept to take the hybrid to the next level.

It brings adjustable air suspension, a sway bar that improves traction over rocks and tough terrain and big 33-inch mud-terrain tyres.

Jeep has added roof racks, added custom fog light bezels with quad LED projector fog lamps and custom vinyl side graphics for protection against debris. Mopar rock rails add further protection.

Jeep has also paid homage to the original Jeep used in World War 2 with its ‘41 concept.

This brings retro styling with a modern hybrid set-up. This is boosted with a soft top, half doors and giant tyres.

The American brand celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Rubicon model with a unique concept vehicle.

It is based on the quickest Wrangler to date and uses a with a 6.4-litre V8 engine. It has a dual exhaust and bonnet scoop for added performance appeal.
