Audi boosts peace of mind with new warranty program

This famed German brand has revealed how prospective and current owners can boost their car’s warranty to up to 10 years.

The luxury German brand announced its new “Audi Advantage” program that allows owners to purchase packages that extend their warranty and covers servicing and roadside assistance.

The packages cover the selected vehicle for two years and owners can buy back-to-back packs up to a maximum of 10 years.

New Audis already come with a five year warranty, so are capped at two packs taking them up to nine years.

In a boon for owners of used Audis, they are eligible to purchase the packs as long as their vehicle is less than eight years old and has fewer than 120,000km on the clock.

Audi adds a caveat that any older vehicle must pass a 115-point inspection and have a full service history carried out to the manufacturer’s specification.

Peace of mind doesn’t come cheap.

Prices for the two year extended warranty and servicing packs start at $2700 for the pint-sized A1 hatchback and rise to $5600 for the R8 flagship supercar.

The packs aren’t available on the e-tron electric car range.

If you buy a used Audi directly from the brand it now automatically comes with a two year warranty, servicing and roadside assistance. Buyers of those vehicles can buy up to four back-to-back packs that boost their warranty up to 10 years as well as covering servicing and roadside assistance.

The packs transfer to the new owner if the vehicle is sold.

Audi Australia boss, Paul Sansom, says this program provides the ultimate peace of mind in the luxury car market.

“In designing this program, we wanted to ensure that Audi owners are the envy of the Australian premium market,” says Sansom.

“Not only did we want to provide a program that gives our owners complete confidence in their vehicle for an extended period of time, but one that also secures the value of their investment, should they decide to trade-up to a newer model in the future.”

Warranty and ownership costs have become the new battleground for car brands.

In the past few years nearly every luxury maker, with the exception of BMW and Porsche, have moved to a five-year/unlimited km warranty from the previous three-year/100,000 benchmark.

Mainstream brands cover their vehicles for five-years/unlimited km and more are likely to follow standouts such as Kia and MG that offer a seven-year guarantee.

Mitsubishi has a 10-year conditional warranty. To access this owners need to have their vehicle serviced at a Mitsubishi dealership every time.
