Becoming the Body of Christ :IT IS WRITTEN

During a fellowship session of animated discussion and laughter this morning, one of the ladies in  our group (who had been unusually quiet throughout), shared how she was going through the most difficult season of her life. Slowly and vulnerably, she surrendered to her grief in our midst, and I stood in awe as I watched the group spring into action forming the body of Christ

One put an arm around her and started praying for her. Another brought out a prayer shawl, covering her head and shoulders. Others were softly praying in tongues whilst ministering powerfully, encouraging worship music.

Someone came with a bowl of warm water and started washing her feet, whilst another anointed her with essential oils.

As the whole group embraced her pain, gentle sobs spread around the room – and just like that, the  Holy Spirit was in our midst. The precious body of Christ became the hands and feet of Jesus, ushering in His sweet presence.

The body of Christ

1 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! 2 It is  like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s  beard, down on the collar of his robe. 3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For  there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

Psalms 133:1-3 NIV

No, we cannot miraculously change her circumstances or remove her grief, but by coming alongside her and empathizing with her pain, we can be the the body of Christ, and usher in Balm of Gilead, who alone is our healer!

1 Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me.  2 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?

Jeremiah 8:21-22 (NIV)

Yes, there are many who are overcome by circumstances or grief, but Christ is the True Balm of  Gilead who delights in seeing His bride come together as One Body, nurturing hurting members in  her midst.

I have heard many testimonies from people who have lost loved ones, saying that Christ’s body (the  Church), literally carried them through that season.

Being part of that body of Christ!

As we unite to show kindness and love, no matter how small or great the deed, the burden will be shared, and Christ will be glorified with the body of Christ.

Don’t hold back thinking you only have a little to offer due to limited resources. Remember the  loaves and fishes! Prayer is the most valuable of all – even a short one, in the name of Jesus!

Together, we become a powerful tool in the hand of our God.

Thank you Father, that we do not have to feel alone! Not only does your Spirit abide within us, but you have also made us an integral part of your Body. Help us value and appreciate each other, treating one another with grace and mercy. Help us be kind and compassionate towards each other we pray, in Jesus’ name.
