A collection of photographs showcasing the beauty of Perth’s coastline — and that of the female figure — will be on display next month.
City Beach-based photographer Sana Brotherson’s first body of work, Diving with the Desired, will showcase more than 50 images of young women, including Olympian swimmer Brianna Throssell, set against the backdrop of Perth’s iconic beachfronts such as City Beach, Cottesloe, Trigg, South Beach and Coogee.
Brotherson, 21, said taking pictures of her younger sisters, 19-year-old Nasya and 15-year-old Aria, sparked her passion for fashion photography.
“Two years ago we went down to City Beach and I took some portrait shots of Nasya and Aria along with a video called Unguarded,” she said.

“That’s when it all really clicked that this is what I should be doing, because I love the beach, the ocean and photographing women in that environment.
“That day was all about the expression of women and empowering my sisters who have both done so much for me.
“I’m blessed to have them because they gave me an avenue to shoot instantaneously and were always open to my crazy ideas.”
After honing her photography and videography skills through a Bachelor of media arts degree at ECU, Brotherson launched her business under the name Capture Framee.
As a swimmer herself, she said Diving with the Desired connected her love for the ocean with taking photos of her friends, family as well as models, using her appreciation of natural light and colour.
“Diving with the Desired aims to celebrate women as strong, confident and beautiful beings shown through the perspective of the female lens,” Brotherson said.
“It features so many important women in my life as well as the epic coastline of WA, so bringing it all together has been so special.
“I really love capturing the different shapes, sizes and colours the female form comes in and when I photograph girls who haven’t modelled before and they see their photos and are so happy and empowered, it’s a really nice feeling.”
Brotherson will travel to Europe in August, where she hopes to capture the natural beauty of women on beaches in Croatia, Italy and Greece.
Diving with the Desired will be at Wow Wow West studio in Victoria Park on June 10.
