Police made a horrifying discovery at the house of a father and daughter thought to have been romantically involved.
Authorities charged Piotr Gierasik, 54, and his daughter Paulina Gierasik, 20, with several counts of murder and incest after the bodies of three newborn babies were discovered at their house in the village of Czerniki, northern Poland.
If convicted, the pair will spend the rest of their lives in prison.
Local police discovered the bodies of the first two babies, wrapped in plastic and buried in shallow graves, on Friday, with a third found in an ‘advanced state of decomposition’ on Saturday.
Ms Gierasik’s colleagues at a local cake shop in the neighbouring village of Stara Kiszewa, have since described how she and her father ‘lived like a couple’.
She is said to have looked up to her father ‘as if he were God’, even after he ‘shaved her head so that other boys wouldn’t look at her.’
One of Ms Gierasik’s co-workers told local media that she had previously attempted to conceal pregnancies from staff at the shop.
They said: ‘We all guessed she was pregnant, I think she had tied belts around herself like a sort of corset.
‘When she returned early from [a] holiday the change was visible. She was much thinner, weaker and constantly tired.
‘When we asked about the child, she feigned surprise and denied it.’
Another colleague added: ‘They lived like a couple. She called him Piotr, by his first name. They walked around hand in hand.’
Prosecutors claim at least two of the murdered children discovered in the house were the result of Mr Gierasik’s incestuous relationship with Paulina.
The third is thought to have been conceived after he forced another of his daughters into having sex with him.
Launched following a tip-off from social services, the police search of the Gierasik’s property remains ongoing.
