Love Island fans feared it was the end for one of the seemingly stronger couples in the show as Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga hit a rocky patch on Friday night’s episode.
The couple – who have been paired up since the show began – got into a heated discussion that resulted in Tanya claiming her current partner was displaying similar traits to her ex-boyfriend.
During Thursday evening’s episode, 24-year-old airport security officer Shaq became frustrated at 25-year-old financial adviser Ron Hall as he chose to avoid cleaning up the dishes with the rest of the male islanders – in favour of talking to his partner Lana Jenkins and Tanya.
The situation continued into the next episode and was the root cause of his dispute with his other half.
Shaq pulled Ron to the side and said: ‘I just wanted to speak to you on a one-to-one basis, at the start me and you were very close and very tight and as time has gone on we’ve grown further apart.’
After their conversation, Shaq headed over to Tanya and Lana who also wanted to talk with him about the night before.

As they discuss Shaq calling Ron over to help with the washing up, Tanya explained: ‘It was rude, he’s a grown man, he heard you the first time.’
Lana then added: ‘It didn’t sit right and I felt like it wasn’t about the kitchen.’
Tanya’s comments, however, did not sit well with Shaq as later in the evening he confronted her about not sticking up for him.
He told her: ‘I wanted to speak to you about when you and Lana spoke to me, with that situation, I’ll be honest, I really didn’t like it. It felt like I was being told off.’
Tanya replied: ‘Babe, no one is coming to you like a child, I don’t know why you’re taking it like that.’
She continued sharing her feelings and upset Shaq when she admitted he was displaying signs of things she didn’t like and was reminding her of her former relationship.
Fans on Twitter shared their disbelief and worries for the couple’s current situation.
One penned: ‘Wow shocked Tanya and Shaq survived that’, while another commented: ‘The producers really just want Tanya and shaq out init. Not even mad atp but they ain’t slick [sic]’.
Despite their differences, after a surprise re-coupling – that led to the dumping of Ellie Spence and Jordan Odofin – the couple survived and will continue into Sunday’s episode.
Love Island returns on Sunday night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
