The beauty brand that’s got American talking has finally made it across the pond to the UK.
Merit Beauty, a brand offering natural barely-there makeup, is favoured by influencers, experts and editors alike – and now we get why.
We think it’s like Glossier but dialed-up a notch on sophistication.
You won’t get strong pigments, contour kits and heavy makeup here – it’s all lightweight, leans on the glowy side, and let’s your natural skin shine through.
This makes it the ideal brand for applying quickly before the office commute or on chilled weekends, as the finished look is subtle and youthful.
We got to test a full face of their products and put them through their paces.
There were hits and misses, with some of the balm textures feeling a little too sticky for comfort, while others were total wins and have gone into our everyday makeup bags.
These are the products we tried – here’s how we got on with them.
Our verdict…

Great Skin Instant Glow Serum – £40
Skip this and go straight to makeup, because while it’s a perfectly nice serum, most of us don’t need a new one – there’s nothing super special here. However, if you are in the market for one, this watery bi-part product needs to be shaken before use, for it to best deliver hydration and glow. We like it, but we aren’t obsessed.

The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick
An excellent skin-like product (in that it’s not matte, but not super glowy), that does concealer and foundation in one. Make sure you apply hydrating skincare underneath so this doesn’t drag along dry skin. It lasts well throughout the day and has buildable coverage – it’s perfect for travel too. Our only complaint, is that there’s too little product inside.

Bronze Balm Sheer Bronzer
For the most natural whisper of bronzer, this makes it easy. There are no harsh lines or orange here, but make sure you don’t use it with full coverage foundation as this is designed for light makeup.

Flush Balm Cheek Colour
An easy-to-blend yet slightly sticky blush. If you don’t mind product sitting on the skin and never fully drying, you’ll enjoy this. If you need it to set, avoid this.

Day Glow Highlighting Balm
For those who want a glossy, rather than shimmery, look – this is the highlighter for you. It’s slightly tacky to the touch after applying and is best used with sheer foundations.

Brow 1980 Volumizing Pomade
An unsung hero from the brand. It won’t give extreme feathered brows, but it will gently lift and thicken them – without leaving them crunchy. We love it.

Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick
A comfortable stain finish lipstick that we enjoyed wearing over the day. The sophisticated packaging adds a nice touch too.

Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil
Hydrating, lightweight, and pigmented – this makes lip colour easy. Perfect in this weather.
