Former Neighbours actress Madeleine West shared a shocking selfie from a hospital bed with an IV drip in her vein.

The 42-year-old star from Melbourne, who played Dione ‘Dee’ Bliss and Andrea Somers on the hit soap, told fans she had been pushing her body to its limits and was now taking some time off to recover.

‘There’s no prize for honouring every commitment if the price is dishonoring your health,’ she penned.

‘I’m smiling but I’m not gonna sugarcoat the fact I’ve just had a massive wake up call. I know I’m not alone in being guilty of taking my health for granted.

‘I hear a lot of hype in my industry about being a YES MAN. Well right now I’m practicing being a NO WOMAN. Frankly, I’d rather be smelling the roses than attending fashion festivals.’

This comes after recently bravely opened up on being sexually abused as a child.

She has not yet revealed any other details of the attacks or named the alleged abuser.

She said: ‘This monster ruined my life. I’ve come out the other side, yes a survivor but happy to own the title of victim.

‘Justice can be achieved. It was never, and never will be, your fault, you are not to blame.’

Madeleine continued to News Corp: ‘I’m now seeking justice. Anyone out there who is posting, watching or hurting a child, your time is up. The wheel is turning.’

This comes as the star launches her podcast Predatory with ex-detective Gary Jubelin to shine light on the issue.

The eight-part series, in which they will speak to child sex crime detectives, calls for a national public child sex register and other changes in laws to compensate victims.

Madeleine added to the publication: ‘Paedophiles are exceptionally calculating and they will get what they want.’

She also said that other people ‘consistently turn the other way’, and it can be ‘very difficult’ for people to believe that the abusers are ‘close to their inner circle’.
