A company director has been hit with a fine of over €1.3m by the Revenue Commissioners for the under-declaration of income tax.
he latest tax defaulters’ list shows that Harish Bansal, with an address of Glencairn View, the Gallops, Leopardstown, Dublin, was hit with the largest fine in the final quarter of last year.
A medical services company and a retired PAYE employee also received fines.
Ebuchi Medical Services in Portlaoise, Co Laois, was fined just over €24,000 for the under-declaration of PAYE, PRSI and USC in the amount of €81,491.
While Geraldine Irvine of Mornington, Co Meath, was fined over €43,000 due to the under-declaration of income tax in the amount of €57,740.
There were six settlement cases worth €1.1m.
Five of the cases exceeded €100,000 and four of them were not fully paid as of December 31, 2022.
Clara Medical Limited, a medical staff provider in the Old Quarter, Ballincollig, Co Cork, made a settlement of €186,453 including €99,691 in tax, €56,855 in interest and €29,907 in penalties for the under-declaration of PRSI, PAYE and USC.
Dominiam Services Ltd, a convenience store operator in Broomfield, Castleblaney, Co Monaghan, made a settlement of €326,881 for the under-declaration of excise duty and VAT.
Meanwhile the owner of a boutique in Co Tipperary was hit with a settlement of over €210,000. Mai Madden, owner of Mai’s boutique on the main street in Templemore, was ordered to pay €126,159 in tax, €46,485 in interest and €37,848 in penalties following a Revenue investigation into the under-declaration of PAY, PRSI, USC and VAT.
As of December 31, just over €70,000 remained unpaid.
A fast-food outlet in Co Cork which is now in liquidation also made a substantial settlement of €167,391 for the under-declaration of corporation tax, PAYE, PRSI, USC and VAT. Niblets Food Co Limited with an address on Bakers Road in Gurranabraher agreed to pay €91,559 in tax, €49,495 in interest and €26,337 in penalties.
The total amount remained outstanding as of December 31.
A company director in Carrigrohane, Co Cork agreed a settlement worth just over €83,000.
Charles Garvey, with an address on the Lee Road, was ordered to pay €59,790 in tax, €6,233 in interest and €17,937 in penalties for the under-declaration of income tax following a Revenue audit.
A number of people were also fined for failing to lodge tax returns, produce proper records and the delivery of incorrect returns. Court fines totalling €71,250 were imposed on 29 people.
Fines totalling €85,500 were imposed on 31 people for the misuse of marked mineral oil, while 25 people were fined for tobacco smuggling, illegal selling of tobacco and possession of untaxed tobacco for sale. The fines totalled €42,850. Some of the offenders also received custodial sentences.
