The chart-topping singer turns 35 on February 20, but has been so busy with her halftime show for the Super Bowl on February 12 that it completely slipped her mind.
Live on ITV in the UK, Super Bowl 2023 will see NFC champions Philadelphia Eagles face off against AFC champions Kansas City Chiefs.
The Eagles will be aiming to win their second Super Bowl, while the Chiefs will be aiming to win their third. Both teams have had near-perfect seasons.
The halftime show, which will take place at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, will be headlined by Rihanna for the very first time in what is expected to be an absolute iconic performance and one to go down in the history books.
And it seems, as she told Apple Music, the triumphant stage return for the Umbrella singer is literally the only thing on her mind since she was given the gig.
‘Sunday, now that’s the one. I’ve been so focused on the Super Bowl I totally forgot that my birthday’s coming up.
‘I totally forgot about Valentine’s Day.’
Rihanna has been dating rapper and performer ASAP Rocky since 2020, and the couple have one child together, a son born in 2022.
After revealing that she has already been through ‘at least 39 versions’ of the setlist, the final plans have been put into place for the big show.
Rihanna will be joining the ranks of previous solo female artists to take to the iconic stage, including Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
She admitted she’s had some trouble trying to condense a 17-year career into just 13 minutes: ‘That was the hardest, hardest part.’
However, the Pon de Replay hitmaker, said: ‘It’s gonna be a celebration of my catalogue in the best way that we could’ve put it together.’
Discussing her return to live performing, the frequent collaborator with Drake admitted that pregnancy and childbirth have changed things for her.
‘The physical challenge has definitely been immense for many reasons, of course. I haven’t done this in a minute. You’re just running around for 13 minutes.’
Earlier this week, Rihanna teased new music and has promised her fans that, when it’s finally released, it will be ‘weird’.
The last album she put out was 2016’s ANTI, which spawned successful singles Work and Kiss It Better. Her last number one single, Diamonds, came in 2012.
Watch the Super Bowl on ITV on Sunday, February 12, 10.45pm.
