This comes after news that Soccer AM is set to be axed after nearly 30 years on air, with host Jimmy Bullard believed to be ‘fuming’.
The Saturday morning staple will finish at the end of season three, with just ten more episodes to go, after airing since 1995.
But Soccer AM staff aren’t the only ones at risk, with The Daily Mail now revealing that Soccer Saturday may also face cuts.
Metro.co.uk understands that while Soccer Saturday processes remain separate to Soccer AM, no decisions in either have yet been taken, and no reporters have been made redundant or told to reapply for their jobs.
A Sky spokesperson told us: ‘Our coverage of football is evolving to reflect the changing habits of our viewers and ensures we continue to deliver the best experience for customers.
‘Our proposal would mean the creation of new roles, and the closing of some existing roles, and we are currently in a consultation period with our people.’
Saturday Social is said to be replacing Soccer AM, a newer football-based show on Sky which features YouTube and internet personalities, intended to appeal to a younger audience.
Soccer AM was formerly hosted by Helen Chamberlain and Tim Lovejoy among others and has regularly featured Peter Dale, known by his nickname ‘Tubes’.
The Sun previously claimed that the news of Soccer AM’s cancellation was a ‘complete bombshell’ to staff.
‘Morale is at an all-time low, they are raging,’ a source told the newspaper. ‘It’s going to be an interesting watch over the next few weeks.’
Meanwhile, a Sky Spokesperson said: ‘Soccer AM has played an important role in our coverage of football for the past three decades, and we continually adapt to the evolving needs of our customers.
‘We now go into a period of consultation to discuss the proposed changes with our people. We are unable to provide more detail while these consultations are underway.’
