Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Rippon, 78, has admitted that the intense training is so gruelling that her legs feel like they’re going to collapse.

The former Come Dancing presenter is hitting the ballroom alongside the likes of EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier, Family Fortunes star Les Dennis and Love Island’s Zara McDermott, and is the oldest star to do so.

Despite being keen to take on the challenge though, Angela has shared an update about the training.

After being revealed to be partnered with Kai Widdrington, Angela admitted: ‘My legs feel like they’re about to collapse.

‘I know what I should be doing, I know how it should be feeling, it’s actually making my legs do it to the music. I’m just getting cross and frustrated.’

She added to The Mirror: ‘I’m exhausted. There are bits of me aching that I didn’t know I had.’

‘I’m enjoying doing it and I’m fine with the bits that I get right. But I get very angry with myself when I absolutely muck it up and do it wrong,’ Angela went on.

This comes after she told Metro.co.uk her secret to staying fit, and even being able to do the splits.

She simply said: ‘Because I’ve kept fit all my life.’

She went on: ‘For the job that I do, you need to be fit because you never know what you’re going to be asked to do next.

‘And a lot of the things that I’ve done in television have been very physical.

‘Nobody thought twice about asking me to go diving with great white sharks or swim with killer whales in the Arctic Circle or abseil down Table Mountain.

‘You never know what you’re going to be asked to do.’

As if that wasn’t enough to show off how fit she is, Angela added that she’s been in instances where she’s had to be on her feet for 12 hours.

‘You can’t do that unless you’re fit!’

In an update on Thursday, after a full day of training, Angela and Kai took to Instagram to share their exhaustion.

‘I’m exhausted,’ she began. ‘Actually, I need a thesaurus to work out the words that I feel, because I’m running out of them.

‘Exhausted, anxious, terrified, how many others are there?’

Kai added: ‘We’ve done very well this week, I’m very proud, and I can’t wait for you all to see our routine at the weekend. Strap yourselves in, because it’s not what you expect!’

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.15pm on BBC One.
