For a pack of 20 tablets, Brits will have to shell out £24 – but will be able to quickly adjust to their new time zone.

Thousands of Brits are set to jet off during the Easter holidays, but long haul flights can wreak havoc with your internal body clock.

This can often eat away at your holiday, with many people suffering from jet lag, making them tired and grumpy.

It tends to be more common in people who take flights over several time zones.

For those that are travelling east it’s most prevalent, with key symptoms being disrupted sleep, headaches and sore muscles.

Dr Sara Kayat said that jet lag is a temporary sleep problem that affects people who travel across different time zones.

“It can occur when your internal clock, the function that lets your body know when to stay awake and when to sleep, is disrupted by a new time zone and puts your internal clock out of sync.

“Melatonin is a hormone we produce to help regulate our sleep cycles, and a synthetic version can be taken in the short term to manage jet lag”, the Superdrug ambassador explained.

This year many people will be travelling abroad for the first time since the Covid pandemic halted overseas travel for many Brits.

Data from Superdrug shows that there has been a 286 per cent increase in demand for travel services and products on last year’s figures.

Malaria treatment is up by 272 per cent and gut health products are also up by 317 per cent.

Period delay services have also seen a rise in interest by 195 per cent.

Michael Henry, Superdrug’s healthcare director added: “Now that people are travelling more freely, they’re considering longer haul destinations where jet lag can take its toll.

“Our jet lag tablets give holiday goers the option to reduce the impact of this common problem.”

For most people, jetlag goes away within two days, but the melatonin pills could help as they vow to help regulate your sleep patterns.

It does this by topping up your melatonin levels, which help your body to sleep.

The main symptoms of jet lag include:

  • disturbed sleep cycle
  • nausea
  • indigestion
  • diarrhoea
  • constipation
  • change in appetite
  • confusion and light-headedness
  • sweating
  • headaches
  • muscle soreness
  • irritability
  • irregular periods

Depending on how many time zones you travel over these symptoms could last several days.

If you don’t want to take a supplement, there are some natural ways to help relieve jet lag.

Experts say to avoid jet lag you should try and begin your journey well-rested and after a good night’s sleep.
