*Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ted Lasso season 3 episode 1*
Ted Lasso viewers were totally taken aback after the show’s most cherished couple announced their split in the first episode.
The irrepressibly heartwarming drama follows small-time American soccer coach Ted (Jason Sudeikis ) attempting to lead the UK football team AFC Richmond to victory.
Despite his inexperience, Ted eventually wins over the players, including the cocky Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), and his boss Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), who is navigating post-divorce life.
The first episode of chapter three finally premiered on Wednesday [March 15] much to the delight of fans everywhere, however they soon experienced a sudden switch in emotions after a shocking revelation between Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) was brought to light.
At the end of season two, the fan-favourite pair decided to spend their summer alone after working on their relationship.
But in the last few minutes of the latest episode, the couple told Roy’s niece Phoebe that they broke up.
Fans were evidently rocked by the shock announcement and immediately took to Twitter.
One person tweeted: ‘NOT MY ROY AND KEELEY BREAKING UP not even 9am and Ted Lasso S3 has ripped my heart out.’
Another added: ‘The only good thing about Roy and Keeley breakup is that they did it in first episode and they didn’t look like they want to breakup so it gives me hope by the end of the season they’ll get back together.’
A third wrote: ‘They f*****g broke up Roy and Keeley, if they won’t get back together by the end of the season I will sue.’
Last year, actor and show writer Brett, 42, confirmed that the third instalment will be the last.
‘We are writing it like that. It was planned as three [seasons],’ he said.
In an attempt to lift the mood, the star joked to The Sunday Times: ‘Spoiler alert — everyone dies.’
Ted Lasso is available to watch on Apple TV Plus, with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
