Terrifying moment massive 16ft great white shark smashes open cage forcing diver to swim for his life
THIS is the terrifying moment a monster great white shark smashed into a diver’s protective cage – forcing him to scramble to safety.
Shocking footage shows diver Jimi Partington frantically swimming for his life following the horrifying near-miss with the 16ft beast.
In the clip, Jimi can be seen laying in a clear box on the surface of the water.
He watches on as the curious sea creature glides through the sea – but the beast begins to prowl closer and closer to the cage.
The huge shark can then be seen accelerating ferociously through a shoal of fish towards the box before attempting to lock its mighty jaws around its base.
With the box smashed into at such force, Jimi was thrown from it and found himself floundering in the sea in a panic.
He can be seen desperately trying to get back into the box before eventually giving up and swimming to safety.
The footage was shot in 2020 and shared as part of Discovery’s Shark Week.
Producer and director Jeff Kurr said: “Great White Open Ocean is a film that follows the story of a friend of mine, an expert shark diver named Jimi Partington.
“He actually survived being hit from below by a 16-foot Great White.
“We were able to capture this encounter on film, and it’s probably the most spectacular sequence in Shark Week history.
“It’s also miraculous, because when Jimi was hit by the shark, he didn’t get a scratch on him.
“He actually had to swim for his life back to the boat, but he was fine. But there’s a lot more to this film than just that encounter.”
Meanwhile, a shark expert has revealed the best way to survive an attack – but you’ll need to be brave.
Marine biologist Ryan Johnson said the worst thing to do when seeing those big pearly whites is to act like prey.
He said: “If you act like prey, they are possibly going to treat you like prey. Don’t panic, don’t thrash, don’t try to get away.
“You should hold your ground and 99.9% of the time you’ll have a wonderful time and then it’ll go on its way.”
It comes after a shocking video showed the moment a shark took a devastating bite out of a fisherman’s hand during one of the latest attacks off the US coast.
Video footage of the shark attack captured a gruesome image of the beast’s blood-spattered jaws after it finally released the man from its grip.
