Aussie rap sensation The Kid Laroi has thrilled his fans by inviting iconic children’s entertainers The Wiggles on stage for a surprise performance during his packed Melbourne concert.
Laroi lived out every child’s dream on Sunday night driving an imaginary version of the Big Red Car as original members Anthony Field, Jeff Fatt, Greg Field plus Wags the Dog and Dorothy the Dinosaur sent the crowd wild with an energetic version of Toot toot, chugga chugga, big red car.
And in honour of the headliner, they adapted the lyrics to: “Laroi is doing the driving”
Laroi is considered one of Australia’s biggest musical export in decades and has collaborated with some of pop’s biggest names including Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.
Fans at Rod Laver Arena were thrilled, with one commenting on social media: “Put a fork in me… I’m done! The best guest appearance at @thekidlaroi concert tonight ✌🏽Can’t wait for next Friday.”
“This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen,” wrote another.
To mark the show The Wiggles presented Laroi with his own blue Wiggles top.
It comes after Laroi copped backlash from angry fans after he cancelled at the last minute a different show in Melbourne last week.
The Without You musician cancelled the show 35 minutes after he was set to take the stage due to illness.
The 18-year-old later posted a lengthy apology on social media, claiming he had been too unwell for his scheduled performance.
“To say that I’m sorry is an understatement,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I promise you with all my heart that I gave everything in me to try and get up on that stage tonight. This is my first ever tour and I absolutely hate that I’ve had to do this, especially so last minute.”
But unhappy fans were still not appeased, with some taking to Twitter to express their anger and disappointment and accusing him of withdrawing because he was too hungover after partying hard the night before.
Laroi was swamped by fans while in WA for his Perth show, with the star sparking a fan frenzy in the Perth CBD, when about 800 people lined up for hours to catch a glimpse of him at a scheduled appearance at cult Streetwear label StreetX.
