‘What a legend’: Mzansi praises Black Coffee’s production on Drake album


Canadian rapper Drake surprised his fans with a new album titled Honestly, Nevermind on Friday 17 June. The 14-track album is different from his 2021 release, Certified Lover Boy and has a dance feel to it. This might be due to one specific executive producer on the album…

South African producer and DJ Black Coffee executive produced the Canadian star’s new album and his son, Esona also has a production credit! Mzansi has praised the Grammy-winning producer’s production skills on the album.

BLACK COFFEE EXECUTIVE PRODUCES DRAKE’S NEW ALBUM 

Taking to Instagram in the early hours of 17 June, Drake officially announced the release of Honestly, Nevermind.

In his post, the rapper wrote: “7th studio album Honestly, Nevermind out at midnight”. 

The album cover featured the tracklist and the names of the executive producers. The album’s production was led by the rapper’s team, Noah “40” Shebib, Oliver El-Khatib, Noel Cadastre and Black Coffee.

MZANSI PRAISES BLACK COFFEE 

Taking to Twitter, Mzansi praised Black Coffee’s production skills on Drake’s new album with some noting the South African DJ’s sound in the album. 

“Drake & Black Coffee came through for the tech-house fans asbonge,” wrote one tweep.

“I don’t really care what y’all think about Drake but this entire album is entirely Black Coffee’s sound and he killed it! That leading kick? The sound? He’s insane, no ways,” wrote one tweep. 

“Black Coffee did it again, his contributions to Honestly, Nevermind too clear.” 

“Black Coffee moves with so much humility, all these interviews he’s been doing after the Grammy and not once did he mention that he’s busy with a Drake album. What a legend!!”

DRAKE AND BLACK COFFEE COLLABORATIONS 

Drake and Black Coffee previously collaborated on Drake’s 2017 album, More Life. The rapper sampled the 46-year-old producer’s classic hit, Superman featuring local songstress Bucie. 

Drake featured British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith on the track’s vocals.
