A Woolworths worker has revealed just how popular its famous hot cross buns really are after sharing a TikTok about five unknown facts.

A Woolworths worker has revealed exactly how many of the Easter treats it sells each year and let’s just say it’s an insane amount.

In a TikTok, Sydney staffer Liam Kirley, who runs the chain’s page, shared five facts about the retailer’s hot cross buns.

To begin, Liam explained the reason they’re sold in December, and not around April, is because they are “far too good to wait”.

“We sold over two million in the first week so we know you love them,” he said.

However, if you thought that was a lot, he revealed the chain sells about five Airbus A380s worth of hot cross buns in just one year.

“Which is about 2865 tonnes,” Liam added.

The Airbus A380 is largest passenger airliner.

“Fact number three; our most popular month is April. No surprises there,” Liam continued.

He also shared some of the limited-edition offerings including Banana and Caramel, Apple and Cinnamon and Mocha.

He then teased fans with fact number five – being the “secret” topping.

“Final fact. The crosses at the top are made of … that’s a secret, not telling ya.”

The clip attracted plenty of attention from hot cross bun fans with the majority praising the Apple and Cinnamon flavour.

“I have tried the apple and cinnamon and it is still my favourite,” one shopper commented.

“Apple cinnamon was so good,” another agreed, while a third added: “The apple cinnamon ones were legit.”

One customer begged Woolies to bring back the Sticky Date and Caramel buns from 2014.

“They were SO good,” they wrote, to which Liam responded: “Guess we may have to look into that.”

One TikTok user described the Easter treats as “amazing”, asking how the chain makes them so good.

And while Liam didn’t disclose the secret ingredients, he did share another TikTok on how the chain makes its popular fruit buns.

“Firstly we mix the dough for a few minutes,” he began the clip. “Then we add our fruit: sultanas.”

He said once the dough was mixed, bakers divided it up into portions and let it rest for 40 minutes.

When that is done, Liam said they put the “famous” crosses on top.

“We place the perfect buns into the oven for a full 20 minutes. Then we immediately glaze them for a shining polish.”

The video has amassed more than 104,000 views with hundreds of comments from shoppers praising Woolies’ bakery goods.

“I have bought 30 bags of them this month,” one shopper wrote about the hot cross buns.

“My mouth is drooling this is why woolies is my fav shop to shop for food at,” another added.

A third wrote: “Low key nothing beats the chocolate hot cross buns, simply just a classic.”

And Liam agreed: “Our chocolate hot cross buns are next level.”
